MediGene AG is a publicly quoted (Prime Standard: MDG) biotechnology company, with its headquaters in Martinsried near Munich, Germany, and subsidiaries in Oxford, UK, and San Diego, USA.
MediGene is the first German biotech company with a drug on the market. MediGene’s anti-cancer drug Eligard® for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer, is being marketed in Europe by MediGene's partner Astellas Pharma. Eligard® is a LHRH-Agonist with a new depot formulation. A second drug has been approved by the US regulatory authority FDA. A third drug, OraceaTM for the treatment of Rosacea, was recently inlicensed from the US pharma company CollaGenex to market this drug in Europe. In addition, several drug candidates are currently in clinical developement. MediGene also possesses innovative platform technologies.
The copmpany's core competence lies in research and development of novel approaches in anti cancer and autoimmune therapies. Thus MediGene focuses on indications of high medical need and great economic opportunities. MediGene’s strategic goal is to integrate all the core areas of the modern drug development business, from research on novel therapeutic concepts to the development and marketing of drugs.
In this way we will participate in all steps of the value chain. In the long term MediGene will have to further develop its innovative technologies, and will need to continue to introduce competitive drugs to the market. This can be accomplished on the basis of our own resources, through acquisitions, by in- and out-licensing, or in partnerships with other companies.
