Our scientific expertise lies in decoding the molecular pathology of tumours and our value proposition is the identification and exploitation of superior disease markers through use of unique clinical tissue banks and state-of-the art tumour molecular pathology studies.
An example of our success in this regard is our discovery that the drug metabolising enzyme CYP1B1 is over-expressed in all major cancers, and a cancer vaccine against this target is in clinical trials under license to Zycos Inc. We are building a range of industry and academic collaborations to exploit our growing IP estate and underpin our product development programmes.
Key initiatives include:
• CYP1B1 activated product therapeutics that selectively destroy cancer cells without harming healthy tissues
• Antisense drug to enhance chemotherapy by preventing the metabolism of existing drugs in tumour tissues, with further potential use in blocking environmental pro-carcinogen activation and carcinogenic steroid metabolism
• A new class of drugs to control angiogenesis, with application in cancer, arthritis, cardiovascular disease and wound healin
• New target identification programme: mining for new therapeutic targets in a wide range of cancers, using proteomics and tumour tissue microarrays
• Commercialisation of clinical tumour tissue banks
